Bloomsburg U Making National Headlines After Baseball Player Got Cut For Calling Mo’ne Davis A “Slut” On Twitter

Former Montco high school standout Joey Casselberry (left) was dismissed from the team at Bloomsburg University after calling Mo´ne Davis a "slut" on Twitter.

Obviously not the smartest tweet ever,  calling a 13 year-old a slut on Twitter,  but this is the world we live in now.

Philly – A former Methacton High School star was booted from his college baseball team over an offensive tweet he sent about Little League World Series star Mo’ne Davis.

Bloomsburg University first baseman Joey Casselberry was removed from the team after sending out a tweet calling Davis a “slut” while criticizing news that a Disney Channel movie was being made about the Taney star.

Casselberry’s Twitter account was deactivated Saturday night, but not before screenshots of the tweet made their way across the internet, angering and shocking area sports fans.

“You were way out of line and disrespectful,” Shirley Smith wrote after reading Casselberry’s tweet. “You should really be ashamed of yourself.”

Writer Kimberly Ellis thought Casselberry’s message was “a blatant conscientious attempt to degrade a child, a girl, a black girl.”

Bloomsburg announced the dismissal of the junior first baseman on Twitter, and said it was “deeply saddened” by Casselberry’s tweet, noting “his words do not represent Bloomsburg University.”

Do I think Joey really thinks Mo’ne Davis a banging a bunch of guys and the ripe age of 13?  No.  I think we have a college kid who was simply just trying to be funny on Twitter,  and it blew up in his face.  That’s 2015 for ya.  Tweet at your own risk.  Obviously it wasn’t the smartest move ever to call a 13 year-old icon a slut for the whole Twitter world to see,  but I think they were a little harsh on Joey.  Should he have to face some kind of repercussion for saying what he said?  Absolutely.  Maybe suspend him for a game or two.  Maybe give him some community service.  But cutting him from the baseball team?  That’s a little harsh for 20 characters on Twitter.  Once again,  I’m not saying what he said wasn’t wrong,  but cutting him from the team?  I’m not really down with that.  Don’t kill a kid’s dream for a stupid joke he made on Twitter.  Very sad news to say the least.
